I loved this game! I still have it for my Gamecube. My friend and i played through the entire thing co-op multiple times, and it got hard as balls at the end sometimes.

And i wouldn't say COD is overrated due to the community, it's because they managed to make an amazing game in the beginning (COD4, COD5 coming with zombies, even MW2 was a very fun game to play with friends, Black Ops continued to do pretty well, then MW3 just fucked itself completely and isn't nearly as good as the franchise used to be) It's the replay-ability that people love so much, and the fact that you spend more time playing the game than waiting in lobbies, picking your character, etc. People also feel really accomplished when they do well in the game.

MUDS, MUSHES, and MOOS...

Before a lot of you guys were sperm in your dads testicles there was the text only based games. People spent years creating these fantastic and interesting story line games where your only command was "go north".. "go south" and "attack gnome".. on a little screen with a keyboard. It reminded me about it when I saw it on an episode of "The Big Bang Theory" and Sheldon was playing one! In programming class at the cheap community colleges where they taught outdated coding to presumptuous high school kids like me who thought they could get a leg up on competition for the ever increasing workforce of programming drones before the tech bubble burst for like the second time in my lifetime already, there would be rows of these computers that were for the programming students (yes.. i was a programmer at one time but I got bored with it but I do know COBOL and PASCAL). But this is where I first got involved in online gaming. We would hurry and finish our program assignments and then "telnet" onto a MUD or MUSH and spend hours scribbling down directional commands in a maze of unseen mobs and quests where we had to read line after line of text describing the scenes and the scenarios of what was going on, leaving your imagination to conjure the graphics of it all.

You could group in private channels or listen to the local chats but thus existed the first ways we reached out beyond the person next to you to play a game with someone. Finding someone who knew what they were doing was like finding a needle in a haystack and you held onto their friendship for dear life as the only way to continue onto new and exciting parts of this maze of words was by someone else who knew how to get there.

There was no griefing because your bored.. if you were bored you usually broke down and helped a newb and your merit and popularity was only valued by your knowledge of the server and your friendliness to help others. There was no way for you to screw up the game or hack into it. It simply was as it was and you either existed in it or didn't. There was no skype so you could not hear the persons voice so the only way to connect was to log in. You had to assume if they said they were boy or girl.. they just were. But most people were not as concerned about hooking up although it did happen very rarely.

It was also the birthplace of text art or ASCII art where people tried to spruce up your reading with fancy dragons made of number characters etc.

Elendor MUSH still exists since like.. old days of 1991 and was based on Tolkens stuff. I looked it up and apparently it still exists.

There was also the original Game of Thrones MUD, I think a form of it exists still. I know the guy who was a co creator of the original role play stuff. I think he does some comic cons or something talking about it now the tv show came out.

There were hundreds of telnet addresses to connect to. I cant remember them all but as far as I know, you can still play a few today and enjoy the simple art of good story line and character writing.

I think the reason CoD has been given so much hate is not because the games are shit (which the more recent ones are) but because of their fanbase. So many people who play CoD have shut themselves off to all other games and labeled them as gay because they've detirmined that everything sucks except CoD. That's part of where the conflict between pc and console gamers comes from. Whenever one stereotype gamer meets the other they both point and yell "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGG" until one of them goes away.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it.

i played the SHIT outa this as a kid, aswell as the entire game set that came in that C&C box.
Psychonauts is pretty underrated, so is the binding of isaac, and i feel like doom 3 deserves more respect than it got.
But, Doom 3 BFG edition has my hopes up.

Can't go wrong with Bethesda. They're my favorite developers.

Game of the year...

My opinion would be Duck Hunt. I have been playing that for 6 years straight whenever I go up north to my cottage. Still fun everytime!

Skyrim sucked for me on the xbox...soo no. I'm not going to bother getting it on the PC either because I know the experience won't be any better.
Plus it was annoying on how my friend did "Special finisher moves on a dragon" EVERY GODDAMN DAY!

It may have got game of the year. But all dem CoD fags still thing it's crap and give it next to no attention. Unfortunately about 50% of the gaming community is a CoD fag.

I wouldn't exactly consider everybody that plays Call of Duty a CoD fag. There's quite a bit of people that play it casual enough that you meet and can actually have fun playing with. It's like every other game, where there's people that take it to the extreme and others that don't. CoD has that reputation because of the people that do take it to the extreme.

age of empires and age of mythology, i agree with. They are those games that required the brain power that Cod players don't have.
I also would say the civilization series.
Lastly I would say portal, I am surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.

That's because Portal does get a high amount of attention.

In my community, not nearly as much as it should...
